This car was one of the last with red hydraulic fluid, the green LHM was to appear the following month.
From 1960, 4 types of ID estate were available: the Break with two folding seats in the boot, the Familiale, the Ambulance and the Commerciale. This last version is the rarest with roughly 500 examples produced each year.
Only one trim level was available, called Luxe where the upholstery was covered in plastic. It comprised 2 bench seats, the rear one being foldable. There were no foldaway seats in the boot, just a simple hatch in their place which gave access to a very small separate boot floor.
The upper rear hatch was held open with a simple strut, the telescopic prop did not arrive until the following year. Like all versions of the estate, the lower part of the rear hatch opened to become a lengthened boot floor. This lower hatch had 2 registration plates allowing legal driving even when the hatch was lowered, thus this was the only vehicle in the world with 3 registration plates.
Price at the time: 2304 euros (monthly minimum wage: 54 euros)
HISTORY:
Finding an estate conserved in exceptional state is as difficult as for a real cabriolet. After seeing many, I found this one in rare ‘Commerciale’ specification. It had belonged to a Swiss lady living in Haute-Savoie. On her death at the age of 89, all the furniture in her house was sold by auction, including a mini-car and this ID Commerciale. The advertisement attached here gave little information away and did not highlight this Break. An enthusiast from Perpignan region bought it for a ridiculous price. He kept it safely between 2001 and 2009 and rarely used it, before advertising it on the internet. But the price was not the same.
