Acadiane GPL 1982

KM: 1 888 Kms
YEAR: 07/1982
COLOUR: Blanc Alaska  AC 077

MODEL:

From the beginning of 1980, Citroen offered the Acadiane running exclusively on LPG, the bi-fuel function being forbidden in France at that time.
The 602 cc engine from the standard vehicle is kept, with a water-warming system being created using what was originally a fuel pump as a water pump.  The performance was almost identical to the standard vehicle. Very few were sold but this demonstrates Citroen was one of the pioneers of budget fuels.

HISTORY:

A grocer and wine merchant from Tours ordered this version and only used it for 2 years and 1800kms, before storing it in a disused chapel. He had several bad experiences of running out of fuel, thereby requiring towing to an LPG fuel station. He also decided that it was too big (?!), and so he replaced it with a Fiat Turino which ended up in the same place.
27 years later, the town of Tours decides to reclaim its oldest chapel, dating from the 11th century. The cars, which had been surrounded by hundreds of empty bottles and cylinders, had to be moved. A car-fanatic family member took on this task, and offered it to me in exchange for an Ami 8 estate from the museum. The blue 7,000km Ami 8 displayed here had just arrived, a double for another Ami 8 with 17,000km. This latter car was accepted, and the exchange took place near Saint-Etienne.
Some days later, I got a phone call from the seller : The 100 % original Ami 8 fell down from the lift of the Technical control (MOT).
