HISTORY:
Louis Wassmer worked to the Fessenheim nuclear power station. He had always owned 2CV’s, up to the time that Citroen launched the AMI Super in 1973. He allowed himself to be convinced by the local Citroen dealer to order one of the bottom of the range models. But once in possession of the car, he realized that it did not suit him. He was not able to get used to the floor mounted gearchange and the reversed gear shift pattern. He drove no more than 2,000 km by 1980! He went out in it sometimes on a Saturday or Sunday to go shopping.
In 1980, he went back to his first love and purchases a 2CV AZAM of 1966, which was in good condition despite already being 14 years old. He used this car in place of the AMI Super but without driving an enormous amount. He did not get rid of the AMI Super but kept it well protected. Several years before his death, the 2CV and AMI Super have been placed in a garage 30 kms from his home.
After the death of the gentleman in 2012 at the age of 83 years, his nephew inherited the AMI Super as no one else wanted it. He gets it back to being roadworthy but as he is heading to the United States, he had the good idea of asking to place the car at the home of my friend Etienne Musslin, chief editor of the excellent magazine ‘Planet 2CV’. Etienne knew of my museum and the way I work, he realized it is the best destination for this car.
