CX Régamo 1987

YEAR: 11/1987 (Model 1988)
COLOUR: Gris Perlé AC 073

MODEL:

Whilst it looks like a regular CX 2500 GTI series 2, it is in fact a prototype called the CX Regamo.
REG means “regulation” and AMO is for “amortisseurs” (suspension dampers).
About 12 such cars were produced in order to test the hydractive suspension of the forthcoming XM. Half were kept for factory tests, the other half were delivered to dealerships. These then leased the cars to carefully selected high mileage customers in order to test them. After 30,000 kms, the cars were changed back into regular CXs, so they could be sold on as second hand cars.
At the moment, only one other Regamo car is known to survive, plus the one kept by the conservatoire Citroën in Paris.

Under the bonnet :

  • The stiffness regulator equipped with its own sphere and electrovalve take the place of the fuel filter. It is mounted in the same place at the back on the right side.
  • The speed sensor is placed within the speedometer cable.
  • The brake pressure sensor is fixed within the priority valve
  • The ride height sensor is fixed to the lower crossmember

In the interior :

  • The switch controlling the “sport” or “auto” settings as on the XM, is placed to the right of the steering wheel, with indicator light on the dashboard.
  • The suspension computer is placed under the front right carpet. It is identical to those on the first XMs sold from May 1989.
  • The steering sensor is placed at the steering wheel base.
  • The accelerator sensor is placed near the pedal.

Options :

  • ABS
  • Temperature pack = thermal insulation, tinted glass, air conditioning
  • VIP equipment = black velour seats with grey chevrons, rear headrests, electric windows front and rear, 2 electric mirrors

Attached is a copy of the feedback sheets that made it possible to improve the hydractive suspension project.
Price at the time of the 25 GTI (not Regamo): 137,900 Francs

HISTORY:

Mr. Kaminski, the Citroën dealer in Romans, ordered this prototype CX to offer it as a long-term rental contract to his loyal customer Mr Anne. During use, the car passed regularly through the workshop where feedback sheets were filled out and sent to the head office, in order to improve the future hydractive XM.
After 30,000kms, the rental ended. Mr Kaminski had to retrieve the specific hydractive parts and resell the car as a regular CX GTI. As a connoisseur of old vehicles and aware of its rarity, he knew how to preserve it without transforming as requested by the parent company. Mr Kaminski was the dealer who saved the DS number 32 from an uncertain future. When he knew I had bought the DS for the museum, he suggested that I do the same with this rare CX.
