Since the GS was appreciated mostly by older people, Citroen decided to manufacture a sporty variant for a younger clientele.
The GS X was launched at the 1975 Salon, with the 1,015 cc engine, as well as the
GS X2 with the 1,220 cc engine, improved as follows:
- New carburettor with improved inlet system.
- Modified camshaft profile.
This horizontally opposed (called “boxer”) 4 cylinder develops 64 Ch (approx 61 bhp) at 5,750 rpm instead of 60 Ch for the standard GS 1,220 cc engine. Rated as 7cv for taxation. 155 km/hr.
Some exterior differences:
- Small wheel trims and exposed wheel nuts
- Improved main beam headlights standard across the range
- The X2 logo on the bootlid.
Interior:
- Seats with integral head-rests.
- Dashboard with round Jaeger dials, allmost identical the GS Birotor.
Price at the time: 22,600 Francs.
HISTORY:
By participating in car meetings for over 30 years, many dealers know of my interests. Thus in 2005, one of them offered me this GS without being aware of how rare this model is, especially in this condition.
