The Xantia is launched in 1993. It is a true Citroen, with hydropneumatic and hydractive suspension, capable of firming up when driven hard.
In 1995, the Activa is launched, the name is due to the innovative system called Systeme Citroen de Contrôle Actif du Roulis (Citroen system for active roll control). It allows flat cornering, a long-held dream for Citroen. Paul Mages had worked on this system from 1954, when designing the DS.
In 1997, the Activa comes out with a new 2.9 litre V6 engine of 194 Ch, also available in the XM (known as the ES9 engine within PSA).
The result: In the famous handling test (devised by the Swedish car magazine “Teknikensvarld”), the Activa is still the best in the world with 85km/hr, ahead of the Maclaren 675LT with 83 km/hr.
Due to lack of advertising of this model, less than 2,700 examples of this extraordinary car were sold (production of all Activa models: 18,236).
Price at the time: 31,418 euros (minimum monthly wage: 976 euros)
HISTORY:
The Citroen Conservatoire based at Aulnay decided to reduce its stocks in view of an anticipated move in 2018. This Activa was one of 2 pre-production V6 engine cars for testing. It was decided to put it up for auction on 10 December 2017. The lack of identification documents prevents the car from being used on public roads, which allowed me to buy it for the very reasonable price of 16,000 Euros.
